Hello,

Generally I'm interested in a thread on GPS receivers for mobile mapping, whether they be compatible with smart devices, laptops, or other mobile computing systems.  Let's discuss what works and doesn't for mobile mapping devices, so others can learn from our success and mistakes.

Also, at the moment I am specifically looking for tips or recommendations on GPS receivers that are compatible with laptops.  I am more accustomed to using a Bad Elf that Bluetooth pairs with Apple devices so this is new to me, and the standard Trimble handheld.  Bad River Conservation Enforcement recently updated their laptops with Panasonic Toughbooks and I want to recommend the best unit(s) to pair with their device to use with ArcPad.  Please advise!

Thank you,
Suzi

Hi,
I'm hoping I can resurrect this thread.  We are looking at purchasing several (4?) devices to use initially for invasive species mapping, but they would likely also be used for other projects in the future as well. Aerial wildlife surveys for example. What are people using and having success with?  I'm thinking something tablet-sized, decent GPS accuracy, and obviously able to run the esri mobile apps such as Field Maps, Survey123, and Quick Capture.
One option is the Trimble tablet, but I feel like those may be "too much" device for the simple things we're looking at doing.  What I'm leaning towards is a lower-end tablet with GPS capability that could easily (inexpensively) be replaced should something happen to it or when we need an upgrade.
My other question is: do all of the field workers that are going out and collecting this data need to have their own individual AGOL account? I believe I read that Quick Capture does require an organizational account for anyone using it, but what about the others? Do some of them only need the free AGOL account, as long as someone with the organizational account sets up the survey or map?
I would love any and all feedback on what folks are using for field mapping!

Thanks!
Heather
